The primary election, which was conducted in Lokoja on Saturday, August 24, had in attendance the representatives of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), from the state and national headquarters, and the Deputy Chairman of the party, from the North Central Zone.

The delegates who were drawn from the 21 LGAs and the State Executive Council adopted a consensus model using voice votes which favoured Chief Sunday Umoru who was returned as the winner having survived the party screening.

In his acceptance speech, Chief Umoru assured the delegates and the entire members of the party that he will run a purposeful and citizenship driven government.

He added that the ‘Take It Back’ slogan of the party will come to play in the November governorship election as he is ready to take Kogi state back from the cabal.

He pledged to implement the manifesto of AAC to lift the people from the shackles of poverty and underdevelopment.

Umoru reminded Kogi electorate that only the almighty God gives power to whoever he wishes to, and that the level of maturity, organization and non-violent democratic process witnessed during the primary election is one of the essential elements in the electoral circle in any democracy.

According to the governorship hopeful, the exercise of a collective will over the aspirations of many resulted in his emergence as the flagbearer of the African Action Congress for the Kogi State November 16, 2019 gubernatorial election.

Chief Umoru reiterated once again that Kogi State is in dire need of good leadership and good governance and it has become imperative for the good people of Kogi State to collectively work together to achieve one main goal of taking Kogi State back from the cabal who are hell bent on looting the common wealth of the state, and from those who are already skimming to create a political dynasty in Kogi State.

The AAC chieftain also referenced that, due to the daunting challenge of leadership failure and tragic consequences of underdevelopment in Kogi State, his aspiration to become the next executive governor is to initiate a robust leadership, a sustainable policy thrust and institutional principles that will guarantee a total re-engineering of a purpose-driven governance and sustainable development in Kogi State.

He commended the delegates, state executives, stakeholders and the National Working Committee of his party, the African Action Congress, for the hard work to keep the party afloat and remaining steadfast to ensure that the party is not hijacked by unscrupulous individuals who are only out for their personal gains.

The state chairman of the party, Mr. Musa Ojodomo tasked members to take back the state by working in an agreement to making the party the pride of the state.

He stated that the party has all it takes to occupy the Lord Lugard House after winning the November 16 election.
