In line with the electoral act as amended, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) through its National Legal Adviser, Barr. Joseph Achile Abu, has applied for the release of the Certified True Copy of Results available for polling units where elections were said to have being successfully conducted from the office of the Resident Electoral Commissioner in Lokoja as computed by the Electoral Officers of Dekina and Bassa Local Government Areas of the commission respectively.
The commission is bound by law to make such release upon application by parties to the election as stipulated by the electoral act.
The application became necessary owing to sporadic and intense shooting by thugs suspected to be loyal to the All Progressive Congress (APC) candidate unabated even with the presence of security agencies which scared candidates and agents of other opposition political parties from accessing and participating at the wards and local government collation centre as they all ran for their dear lives.
The Dekina – Bassa Federal constituency election which held alongside the Presidential and National Assembly Elections on the 23rd of February 2019, was reported to have been marred with wide spread violence, snatching of ballot boxes, primitive rigging, wide spread destruction of card readers and electoral materials, threat, intimidation and deaths of voters.
It is rumored that imaginary figures have been allocated to the All Progressive Congress candidate even in places where elections never held by the electoral officers of Dekina and Bassa Local Government areas of the commission respectively.
There are discrepancies with the numbers of polling units affected with violence of which elections never held between political parties and the electoral officers of Dekina and Bassa Local Governments.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared the results inconclusive and has rescheduled a rerun for the constituency alongside the State House of Assembly election which is to hold on the 9th of March 2019.
