It is with a deep sense of responsibility and sadness, that I receive the news of fresh attacks in Bassa Local government – these attacks are not fresh in reality as they have been lingering for a while.
I witnessed this, first hand around mid 2018 when I was on tours to these localities. I am sad that this is still going on as I speak. I condemn this barbaric act in its entirety.
The tongue is like a sharp knife, it kills without drawing blood, communal clashes are fueled by tales of disunity – while we might link this to politics or ethnicity. I think these attacks cum killing can be brought under control with discussion and mediations.
The Political and Traditional leaders from these areas should as a matter of urgency, call their brethren to order and work for peace and unity. What will be our gain if we can’t live together as we use to, in the past?
As we approach electioneering, I will use this opportunity to charge our youths to shun any activity that will spark violence or fracas, which may lead to the loss of lives and properties.
I am calling on the state government to ensure this situation is arrested at this stage before it escalates to a bigger crisis, it is still early in the new year.
