A training firm, the Hub Professional Consult (HPC) on Saturday organised an empowerment training for NYSC members in Kogi on employability skills in order to be self-reliant.
Mr Ali Taofeek, the Coordinator and Managing Partner for HPC, told newsmen in Lokoja, that the training provided participants with knowledge and skills in areas of networking, information and communication technology (ICT).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that theme for the seminar “Beyond Your Certificate,” was aimed at helping Nigerian graduates to discovering and utilising their potentials.
According to Taofeek, the participants are trained on google digital skills, graphic designs, CV writing, resume & cover letter creation, fine art, and how to get job opportunities in non governmental organisations.
“We have had series of this seminar, but this year, we want to take it beyond what we have been doing before.
“We discovered that lots of fresh graduates become confused after graduating not knowing what to do and how to present themselves to their prospective employers.
“Employability seminar will help the participants to know how to package themselves and presenting their skills in such away that would be appealing to their prospective employers,” Taofeek said.
He enjoined Nigerian graduates still looking for dream and white collar jobs to sit down, look inward and ask themselves what do they really want.
“If you don’t have the skills, go back and get it. What we learned from school is not enough, get some skills, prepare yourself because opportunities will always come.
“The truth is that the jobs are there, but employers are really not looking for half baked graduates but the skilled ones,” he said.
He urged the government to create the enabling environment, give grants to serious minded graduates in order to reduce the population of unemployment graduates.
A corp member, Dada Oluwatoyin, told NAN that it was a priviledge for her to be part of the seminar, saying, “I have never been priviledged to attend a life changing seminar like this.
“I have learnt so many things today such as resume writing, online business which has really added to my knowledge.
One of the discussant, Mr Akinola Emmanuel, said: “I am very happy to be here because I believe in power of networking and sharing of ideas.
“I know after this particular employability seminar, we will have youths with a different mindset.
