Senator Atai Aidoko Ali Continuity Group has berated plans to zone Kogi East senate seat to Idah Federal constituency.
In a statement signed by Idris Yakubu, the group argued that the move negates the provisions of the Peoples Democratic Party’s constitution.
He urged the party to disregard those clamouring for zoning.
“The protagonists of zoning of Kogi East senate to Idah axis are self-seeking supporters of a particular aspirant from Ofu LGA. They are hiding under the name Igala-Bassa Nation to coerce the party to narrow down the contest to their preferred aspirant.
“Some aspirants from Idah federal constituency will also be shortchanged in the event the party concede to the ideas of those insisting that Dr Victor Adoji be given a leeway to flag the party’s ticket
“The self centred decision of those claiming to be acting on behalf of Igala Bassa nation, based on their erroneous calculation to drive home their points, seeks for avenue to force other aspirants to step down for an unpopular aspirant. This is unacceptable.
“It is on record in states like Benue, Delta, Yobe and others federal lawmakers, both at the green and red chambers, spent as many terms as they wish and to the acceptance of the electorates and constituents. The argument advanced by the group in support of Dr Victor Alewo Adoji is null and void.
“How do we prefer uncertainty to certainty at this period of national development and political evolution of the people of Kogi East? The red chamber will be populated by ranking senators, former governors and former ministers making it imperative for all ambitious race to leverage on the advantage they have.
“Senator Atai Aidoko Ali will do more to attract accelerated development to Kogi East. He will work toward enacting laws that will translate into good policies and programs that will guarantee accelerated development of Kogi East and the entire state when re-elected in 2019,” he said.
He warned on the consequences of allowing self serving interests override the interest of the generality of the people of Kogi East.
