The Kogi State House of Assembly is working hard towards establishing a Youth Development Commission that would provide solutions to the myriads of challenges confronting the youths of Kogi State.
The sponsor of the Bill, Honourable Ahmed Mohammed representing Ankpa 1 State Constituency, dropped the hint on Wednesday during a chat with journalists.
He said the Bill when it finally scales through would provide lasting solution to the problems of youth restiveness.
“The bill will cure a lot of menace. Today it has passed its second reading and has been referred to the House committee. Various youth groups under the Youth Advocacy Cluster are advocating for the enactment of this law, groups like the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Kogi state Chapter (NYCN), Nigeria Youth parliament (NYP), Participation Initiative for Behavioral Change in Development (PIBCID), Action Aid, Voice of Youth Initiative (VOYI), INGRA, etc. This bill when passed will bring about partnerships between the state Government and International Donor agencies to fund youth development programs in areas of capacity building, entrepreneurship, sports, Agriculture, Technology etc.,” he said.
The Deputy Majority Leader said the bill will tackle youth restiveness in terms of provisions of gainful employment for the youths; grant them soft loans, among other palliatives.
The lawmaker, who acknowledged that a hungry man is an angry man, posited that youths will be occupied by the devil when they are not gainfully employed.
