The immediate past Vice Chairman of Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State and a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kogi West Senatorial District, Pastor Dayo Akanmode and his political associates have defected from the PDP.
Addressing journalists at a brief ceremony held at his country home, Aiyetoro Gbede, in Ijumu Local Government Area, where they defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), Pastor Akanmode said that the purpose of the ceremony was to put paid to rumours making the rounds as to his defection, pointing out that the need to define his political status became imperative.
He disclosed that over 100 members of his former party, who are his political associates and sympathisers spread across the senatorial district, have dumped the People Democratic Party and pitched their tent with the All Progressives Congress.
He disclosed that the decision to align with APC was arrived at after wide consultations with his political associates, followers, sympathisers and opinion leaders. He pointed out that the interest of the people of the area, which was paramount, would be better served in the APC led administration in the state.
Pastor Akanmode also disclosed that his decision to work with Dr. Toyin Akanle, a frontline aspirant in the 2019 Kogi West senate race, was premised on his belief that the district can better represented at the Red chamber by a man of integrity.
Fielding questions on his position as the Director General of TeamAkanle, he said that he saw Dr. Akanle as the most reliable and dependable candidate for the Senate in Kogi West Senatorial District based on his track record as a public servant of high pedigree with undiluted record.
According to him, Dr Akanle is a man he is proud of in terms of integrity, exposure, compassion and pedigree and described him as an outstanding man and a leader per excellence.
Speaking on zoning arrangement in the district, he revealed that for equity, fairness and justice, the next Senator representing the district should emerge from Yagba Federal constituency, but Yagba East Local Government Area in particular. He reiterated his determination to work for the success of Dr. Akanle in 2019 general elections.
Pastor Akanmode admonished the decampees not to relent in their prayers for the success of Dr. Akanle during the 2019 general elections.
The event was witnessed by party faithfuls across the seven local government areas of Kogi West Senatorial District.
