Kogi State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs. Bolanle Amupitan yesterday received in audience Queen Esther Lawal, Little Miss Nigeria in her office in Lokoja.
The 10year old Queen who hails from Lagos is a pupil of British Elight Standard Imperial School, Abuja.
The Queen, who is on a sensitization tour, solicited for the support of the Kogi State Government in her pet project tagged “Street-To-School Campaign”.
According to her, the project is aimed at raising awareness on the plight of the out of school children in the country, and to also seek stakeholders prompt action in taking children off the streets and back to school.
Queen Esther appreciated the Commissioner for the reception, and also acknowledged her support to Kogi State children, especially the less privilege and medically challenged.
“Let me begin by sincerely appreciating you Ma for your hard work, and to thank the Kogi State Government on her efforts towards children’s welfare.
“Every Nigerian Child deserves quality education irrespective of their social status, it is the responsibility of every government to ensure that all its young citizens are properly educated and given a chance at a better life. We are the future of Nigeria and therefore, adequate priority must and should be given to us.’’ the Queen said.
Reacting, the Commissioner thanked the Queen for visiting her and Kogi State as a whole. She promised to give her all the necessary support in her advocacy project.
“The New Direction government under the able leadership of His Excellency, Alh. Yahaya Bello place premium on children welfare, and education is one sector that we don’t joke with.
“This government, since inception has carried out series of overhaul in the education sector, including investment in infrastructure. Your visit today coincides with the stakeholders summit on education which is a pointer to the fact that we are not leaving any stone unturned in evolving a better educational system for our children.
“We will continue to do our best in ensuring that more children are not only enrolled in school, but also given quality education.
“The door of this Ministry is always open to you, and you are welcome to partner with us in any program aimed at advancing the course of our children,” she said.
Speaking on behalf of the organizers, Mr. Oladele John Nihi commended the Commissioner’s gesture of receiving the queen in her office.
He commend her efforts on children of the less privilege in Kogi State.
