The member representing Okene I state constituency, Hon. Lawi AT Ahmed has enjoined Nigerians to reflect on the norms and traditions which emphasised respect to elders and care for the young as the world ushers in year 2018.
In his New Year message issued in Okene, Kogi State and signed by his media aide, Comrade Danfulani Lukman, the lawmaker said the coming of the New Year, which will signal the rebirth of new hopes and aspirations, should be used by all Nigerians to return to their roots and revive the age-long tradition of communal harmony built on deference for elders and unquantifiable love and concern for the young.
“A society cannot be said to be making progress if it loses its moral fabric.
“For centuries, communities and people of Nigeria have prospered largely due to the harmonious nature of their society. As we enter the New Year, we should all reflect on these virtues so as to fast-track the return of peace and stability to our dear nation.
“We must emphasise the aspects of our culture which promote unity, harmony and peaceful coexistence,” the lawmaker said.
While wishing Nigerians a happy New Year, Hon. Lawi assured the people that Kogi State House of Assembly will take the lead in efforts to find lasting solutions to the socio-economic challenges confronting the country.
He said the last year was not easy to so many Kogites especially civil servants but He however reiterated his calls that the challenges are temporary and that the state would soon pass this phase.
“Kogi is a state destined for greatness. While the cases of non salary payment have been a source of concern for the state government, I believe it is a period we would soon leave behind,” the lawmaker added.
