GYB Support Group, an NGO founded by Mr Boluwatife Rotimi, in collaboration with the office of the Special Adviser to Kogi Governor on Youth Empowerment, Sports and Students Affairs, has offered free medical treatment to the people of Kogi West.
Rotimi, a Philanthropist, disclosed this at the Kogi West Youth Empowerment, Medical Services and Fund Raising for the rebuilding of Okoro-Gbede Town Hall in Ijumu Local Government Areas of the state.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that 700 pieces of 10kg bags of rice, 70 motorcycles and 35 DSTVs were also distributed to people across the seven local governments areas of the senatorial district.
According to Rotimi, the initiative is borne out of his desire to render his contributions to the progress of human society as well as support the successful reign of Gov. Yahaya Bello.
“If our state must progress, we must support our government even as individuals; but if we failed to do this as part of our social responsibilities, I am afraid we would be heading towards retrogressive state.
“This programme is dissected into empowerment, free healthcare services and fund raising for the rebuilding of Okoro-Gbede town hall.
“The empowerment embraces 10 motorcycles per each of the seven local governments of Kogi west, 700 pieces of 10kg bag of rice (100 per local government), and 35 DSTVs (5 per LGA); which will go a long way in ameliorating unforseen challenges facing our people.
“We have brought seven medical doctors, both orthodox and Chinese medicine, and they have been attending to people for the past three days.
“Treatment has been ongoing, drugs have been made available for severe cases, and proper recommendations are being done for further medical attention free of charge.
“I feel fulfilled today because I am giving back to my people the little I could afford,” Rotimi said.
He, therefore, urged the people to support the present administration led by Gov. Bello, stressing that God had destined him to be Kogi governor.
In his remarks, Gov. Bello commended the philanthropist for the good gesture, saying he was a true and worthy son of the soil with integrity, good character with the capacity to attract personalities.
Bello, who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Edward Onoja, said the empowerment brought great respect to the people of Okoro-Gbede, because it caught across all the communities in the seven councils of Kogi West.
“This government is for the youth and anything that has to do with the youth empowerment will be greatly supported by his government. This is the essence of love at Christmas. Health is wealth.
“Happy Christmas! I welcome you to 2018, where the issues of salaries will become a thing of the past in Kogi state,” Bello said.
The Chairman of the occasion, Mr Babatunde Irukera, Director General, Consumer Protection Council (CPC), urged the youth to be creative and use their energy for profitable ventures, stressing that there future was in their hands.
He urged beneficiaries to make good use of the items for their benefits and that of their immediate families and the society at large.
