It was Benjamin Franklin who said, As we must account for every idle word, so must we account every idle silence.
Ladies and gentlemen, my fellow citizens of Kogi state, with a heavy heart and pain in my bone, I want you to know that the will of the people is the only legitimate foundation of any government and to protect its free expression should be our first objective.
We are all aware how the present administration led by His Excellency, Alhaji Yahaya Bello came to power. We all fought for his emergence in various ways to ensure power is shifted with the believe that good governance will be achieved in this dispensation.
Ladies and gentlemen, how long are we going to be on the corner of complaining and bandying blame games around?
The government of the day is characterised by political games and endless pursuit of personal interest in stead of development and growth.
Democracy is a government of progress not retardation. It is a system of government that is said to usher in good governance not abuse of power.
Our politicians and leaders must allow this so sink into their subconscious mind, that education is not a tool for
development – individual, community and the nation. It is the foundation for our future. It is an empowerment to make choices and emboldens the youth to chase their dreams.
I am sad with the development and the manner this present administration is been hijacked by overambitious leaders.
Recently I stumbled into a post written by Muhammed Itopa Siyaka which attracted so varied comments with a picture of a falling mud schools situated in the Eastern axis of kogi state, where her excellency Mrs Rahidat Bello was pictured to have facilitated the distribution of customize bags to children. Instantly it occurred to me that, the quality of leaders we have determines the quality of their appointees.
I began to imaging how long this school have been in existence. Late Abubakar Audu could not renovate it, Idris Ibrahim took over the affairs of government and couldn’t renovate it, through Captain Wada and now is Governor Yahaya Bello. Instead of ensuring a conducive environment good for learning we are busy distributing customized bags, what a leader with customize brain we parade in our society. Instead of thinking outside the box they pitch their tents within the box doing same thing expecting different result…insanity.
It is unfortunate that chronic poverty have succeeded in tampering with the brain of our people. Our reasoning have been twisted and taken away. We rejoice and sing praise our leaders when some token is given out of the abundant at their disposal.
Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world without bullet and powder.
Her excellency, Mrs Rahida Bello with due respect Ma, I commend your charity work and passion for Children education but it is wrongly done in a wrong environment.
We cannot give customized bags to children which schools is falling. The image on that school represent the image of the state and the image of the state represented the head of the state and his priority in education sectors.
It is Malcolm X who said, Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today.
We have commissioner for Education yet such school is still in existence, it is either the commissioner for Education is sleeping on duty or he is a square peg in a round hole.
How can our future be secure in this kind of situation where leaders do not prioritise education?
When education is given less priority in a society the society is heading to a place of doom.
If the resources spent on customize bags was put together, it will raise the foundation of that school but because we lack quality advisers, wisdom and vision become eroded. We are carried away by fame and ambition which kill faster than Ebola.
His Excellency, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, it is time to call a spade a spade, we cannot be pretending it is well with this administration. If we all continue to fool ourselves in no time we will all end in the same pit. This article will not be complete if I do not stop at Lugard House decision centre. By the virtue of the constitution of Federal Republic Of Nigeria, you are the father of the state.
As a father the education of your children should be a priority. But it appear you are not concerned by gory pictures emanating from these outreaches. It is obvious education have declined in Kogi state as a result of unpaid salary and strike.
Your administration was suppose to right the wrongs, but it appear history is repeating itself.
Civil servant salary ought to have been a thing of the past yet we are still holding them to ransom. Permit me to ask you a simple question Sir, how many months salary are the state government owing you and your team?
We are told the state have no money but your salaries are being paid in full and left the civil servant at the mercy of hunger. I speak to you as a son and as a citizen of Kogi state whose right is enshrined in the constitution of the constitution of Federal republic of Nigeria.
Mr Governor, lost time will never be found again, the doors of wisdom are never shut and I beseech you to incline your hear to voice of our education. New Direction is not new if our education is still wrapped up with the old system in mod house. That school in East need to be rehabilitated to portray a good image of your government.
His Excellency, investment in knowledge pay the best interest, and you must not leave that till tomorrow which you can do today.
Words may show a man’s wit but actions his meaning. Well Done Is Better than Well Said.
We don’t need Words but implementation what you have said in the past. Rehabilitate our schools, pay civil servant to resume office. Enough of strike every now and then.
Winston Churchill said, A lie gets halfway round the world before the truth has a chance to put its pants on.
A lot of lies have been on air as a result of this civil servant salary saga and the your government must as a matter of urgency get the record straight before we end up like the previous government.
You can’t build a reputation on what your administration is going to do, reputation is built on what you have executed. This is the point my Governor, his Excellency Alhaji Yahaya Bello. Save Our Education and Save our children, Save Our Children And Save Our future.
There are no easy answer Mr governor, but there are simple answers and we must have courage to do what we know is morally right to meet the yearning of our people without excuse.
God Bless You
God Bless GYB
God Bless Kogi State.
