While all agreed that his coming to power was historic and divine, Gov Yahaya Bello’s extraordinary capacity to tap people’s deepest needs and aspirations collided with primordial political and ethnic divides that has long plagued the state.
Historically, Kogi State is made up of different ethnic tribe with three major tribes, Igala, Ebira and Yoruba (Okun) with Igalas the largest. The lack of written agreement on power rotation often create bad blood and ethnic squabbles among the three dominant tribes in the state giving less priority to capacity and development.
The undeniable aspects of Alh Yahaya Bello rise to power means that every ethnic tribe in the state can become governor. He successfully “Break Glass Ceiling” apology to Hillary Clinton who failed to do so. Also, age barriers was broken.
In years to come, this accomplishment will inform the first line in his obituary and will earn him assured mention in every Nigeria or Africa history textbook written from now to eternity.
In the short-term, he has brought stability to the state, to the civil service reform, to the Security, to the Environment, Infrastructure revolution, to the healthcare sector  and to the Education etc. That’s what he’s presently doing: a state that was in comatose and in dare needs of intervention. Already, the state is seeing enormous progress in many areas eg, infrastructural  development and empowerment,  especially the youths that formed the bedrock of this administration.
There is a steady progress in all fronts which signified the departure from old order of waste, corruption, ethnicity and insecurity.
Although, governorship election in the state can be complicated and nuanced, yet simple when it comes to the basics: Win two terms in office, get big things done on your policy agenda, and keep your party in power. Governor Bello as accomplish the first, with an impressive start, marching words with actions based on an optimistic message of “New direction.” Bello’s administration strategy has brought together a diverse coalition of young turks and voters that suggested the future prospect of the state is secured.
And you can also say that governor Bello will be remember in future as a custodian of trust, dignity, grace, humility.
His commitments to service is legendary. The greatest obstacle to governor Bello quest for a new Kogi is the paucity of funds. The dwindling federation account remains a threat. But that not withstanding, he remain the most formidable and the man for 2019.
