Kogi State Governor, Alh Yahaya Bello has promised to ensure that the indigenous languages spoken in the state are adopted by schools in the state into their academic curriculum.
Gov. Bello stated this on Wednesday 26th April, 2017 while addressing issues raised by the guest speaker, Professor Sunday Ododo Enesi at the first ever Kogi Stakeholders’ Summit on Entertainment, Arts and Culture.
The Professor of Arts from the University of Maiduguri had through his address, tasked the governor on ensuring that the Kogi indigenous languages do not go into extinction.
In his response, Bello vowed to ensure that the Ministry of Education begins the process of introducing the languages to the schools in the state.
“Rather than learning that of others, let us encourage others to learn our own because ours is original. I will ensure that the indigenous languages spoken in Kogi are learnt in our schools,” he assured.
He commended his Senior Special Assistant on Entertainment, Arts and Culture, Mercy Johnson for putting up the summit which drew eggheads from across the state.
According to him, the appointment of Mercy Johnson was not a mistake, adding that the summit has vindicated him.
In a related development, Governor Bello promised to promote Kogi traditional clothings, adding that he will fix a date for his aides to appear in their cultural attires respectively.
