Kogi Government says it has approved and released N41 million counterpart fund for all programmes supported by health development partners in the state.
The Commissioner for Health, Dr Saka Audu, made the disclosure at the 2017 stakeholders meeting on the Review and Planning of Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) in Lokoja on Tuesday.
“I am happy to inform you that the Gov. Yahaya Bello, has approved and released over N41 million counterpart fund for all programmes supported by our health development partners, including NTDs.
“This attests to the fact that his commitment to health and wellbeing of the people of Kogi State is paramount and cannot be over emphasised.
“I want to appreciate Sightsavers for supporting the state on NTDs project since 1997 on Onchocerciasis and expanding their support recently with regards to other NTDs.
“It is noteworthy to say that this partnership has been sustained over the years.
“As you are here to review the programme’s of activities for 2016 and to plan for 2017, I wish you a fruitful deliberations and robust planning,” Audu said.
The commissioner, therefore, gave an assurance that the health-friendly governor, would leave no stone unturned in ensuring that health issues in Kogi would be given the utmost priority.
Earlier, the State’s NTDs Project Coordinator, Mr Albert Alabi, said the meeting was meant to review the extent of implementation of programme of activities of 2016, and to develop 2017 action points.
“It is to also identify strengths, best practices, challenges, and to develop measures for mitigating the challenges and a way forward.
“This will equally afford us the opportunity to draw up the 2017 local government area work plan, share treatment target and draw up strategies for achieving them,” Albert said.
