The West African Students Union Parliament (WASUP), Kwame Nkrumah, on Saturday bestowed an “Exemplary Leadership Award of Credence,’’ on Kogi Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Mrs Rosemary Osikoya.
Presenting the first award to the commissioner in Lokoja, the Chairman of association, Mr Daniel Nwachukwu, Nigeria Chief Operating Officer of WASUP, said the honour was to highlight the role of recipient’s personal leadership traits and her immense contributions towards nation building and human capital development.
He added that her achievements also included human capital development, astute dedication to effective public service delivery, selfless/meritorious services that will limit activities of flooding and other environmental disasters, humanity in Nigeria and West Africa at large.
“This Award of Credence cannot contain your laudable achievements, but it serves as the way to say thank you and to spur you to do more for the people of Kogi, Nigeria and West African at large.
“It is to also inspire the commissioner and of course the State’s Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, who have been to move the state from the lower ebb of environmental degradation to a better level of environmental afforestation,” Nwachukwu said.
In the same vein, the Conference of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP) Kogi State Chapter, also honoured the commissioner with an Award of Excellence.
The Chairman, Mr Abubakar Ibrahim, said the association beamed her searchlight on all the present government’s appointees since inception and discovered that the commissioner had made landmark achievements in many areas.
“Areas such as environmental health education and public enlightenment in State and Local Government Areas especially awareness campaign in the nine LGAs that are prone to erosion.
“Maintenance of dustbin site at Felele, providing and promoting the use of dustbins for healthy environment, beautification and landscaping of the state capital, recruitment of 100 forest guards and construction of drainages among others.
“Hon Commissioner, your achievements within one year is too numerous to mention, you have engraved your name in the new direction policy of Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello, the Governor of Kogi State.
“This Award of Excellence cannot contain your laudable achievement in this ministry and the only way to say thank you and to spur you to do more is to present this Award of Excellence to you after our careful research and assessment in the forum.
“In view of the above, your contributions to building a viral political environment in an all inclusive government shall be appreciated,” Ibrahim said.
The commissioner told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that she felt humbled about the award bestowed on her, attributing her achievements solely to the immense support and commitment of His Excellency, Alhaji Yahaya Bello.
“I give thanks to God and again the gratitude goes directly to Gov. Yahaya Bello, for his commitment to the new direction agenda that we all tapped into; which is the main ingredient that make the difference.
“We are simply coworkers sharing and supporting the actualisation his vision of the New Direction Blueprint, who is the visioneer that has been given the support we enjoy per time.
“So, it a humble recognition to say that we are only just getting started, there is still a whole lot to be done. It one of the facets that the governor has promised the people.
“We want to also thank the people of Kogi State for their cooperation and support for the government, if not for them we would not have been where we are today; thank you for encouraging us and keeping us humbled,” Osikoya said.
