A Chieftain of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Kogi state, Hajia Mariam Ibrahim has charged political office holders in the state to maintain a closer tie with their people through constant delivering of dividend of democracy.
She also called on the people of the state to give their maximum support to the present administration to enable it remove all the cogs that had been hindering the development of Kogi state in the last sixteen years.
Addressing the people of Adavi local government area of the state yesterday during the flag-off of empowerment programme and initiation of hundreds of decampees from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to APC, the stalwart of the ruling party in the state said what the electorates need are basic social amenities that every political office holders can afford to offer as appreciation to the mandate given to them to serve the people.
While commending the Administrator of Adavi LGA for his empowerment programme even in the face of dwindling resources, Ibrahim charged other councils administrators to key into the empowerment programme to reduce the high level of poverty and hunger in the rural areas.
She however enjoined the civil servants in the state to exercise patience with Governor Yahaya Bello’s led administration, assuring that after the conclusion of the staff screening exercise and payments made, every worker in the state will have the cause to appreciate the modest effort of the New Direction Government.
Earlier, the council administrator, Hon. Ajoge Enesi Abu told the crowd that the women empowerment programme was initiated to better the lots of the less privilege people in his local government area.
According to him “The empowerment programme is not only to reduce suffering and poverty level of the beneficiaries, but meant to make most of the beneficiaries self reliant and financially independent.
“This will no doubt make them to contribute positively to the socio-economic progress and development of our dear citizens”
Abu who said the beneficiaries of the programme are painstakingly selected across the nook and crannies of the local government to avoid sentiment, urged them not to go back to their old days of neglect and abject poverty.
“Please do plan for your future with the little I have provided for you in our quest to serve humanity. I assure you of the continuity of this programme to benefit many others”, he said.
