Students of Kogi State University have expressed what they described as the greatest shock of their life after quoting the President of the Students’ Union Government, Philip Omepa who allegedly likened himself to the Governor of the state, Alhaji Yahaya Bello while avoiding responsibility on the welfare of the students.
The statement “I am like Yahaya Bello, so I don’t care if students are trekking” is already spreading like wildfire on campus after the school management on an alleged call by the SUG, banned the KSU Okada, leaving students with the choice of trekking to and on campus at the mercy of five campus taxi.
While this reporter is yet to ascertain the veracity of the supposed claim, students of the institution have decided to protect their admission status by remaining on anonymity to voice out in rebuttals to the new trekking policy of the management.
While narrating his ordeals in meeting up with lecture in the faculty of Agriculture, a student hinted that those living off campus are rallying up to shut down the institution in protest.
“KSU is not big and the faculties are rammed together. We are not complaining about the money we pay bikes to run around, how then can such selfish policy be brought up without first considering we the students.
“They are supposed to gather opinions first, instead we only heard that our SUG President said that he’s like Gov Yahaya Bello and he does not care if students are trekking to lectures or not, he said.
It would be recalled that on the occasion of the flag off of KSU taxi, the school management gave reasons as meeting up with the standard in other varsities in Nigeria; and equally promised to increase the number of the taxi.
However, a recent walk to the institution evidently showed that only five taxis are on ground to transport over 10,000 students within the campus, while the school security are harassing students on bike in the bid to sieve out
commercial cyclists from students.
In a chat with those threatening protest, a representative who spoke for the group revealed that they are patient with exhausting all formalities before launching out.
