2014 CGS/SDGs Pre-qualification: Qualified Bidders Will Get Contract Without Connection – Arc Okara

The Special Adviser to the governor on Sustainable Development Goals/State’s Focal Person, Arc Abdulmumeen Okara has assured contractors for the pre-qualification for the 2014 CGS/SDGs Contracts of level playing ground noting that qualified bidders will get contract without connection or influence.
Arc Okara gave the assurance during the bid opening for the pre-qualification exercise which tookplace today. The Special Adviser said gone are the days when contracts are awarded to unqualified contractors with connections while denying qualified ones. He said the NewDirection government under the leadership of Governor Yahaya Bello believes in competence, diligent and professionalism, adding that contractors that merit the conditions for the award of contract will get it without knowing anybody.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the 2014 CGS/SDGs Project Implementation Committee and Kogi State commissioner for finance and head of the state’s economic team Hon Idris Asiru said TEA which stand for Transparency, Equity and Accountability are the guiding principles of the NewDirection policy of the current administration of Governor Yahaya Bello of kogi state. In his words; “kogi state government of today stands for transparency, equity and accountability and in demonstrating that in the award of contracts, all the stakeholders that are supposed to be present during bid opening and pre-qualification process as contained in the procurement act are all here. Qualified contractors are to do their jobs according to specification. I, as the chairman of the implementation committee will not ask any contractor to come and see me for any personal reason and no member of the committee will request anything from you. All we want is quality job delivery”.
The director of the Bureau of Public Procurement; Dr Stella Adejo said contractors who followed the public procurement act in the bidding process should have nothing to worry noting that the BPP will listen to any complain raised from the bidding  exercise by any contractor.
The spokesperson of the Kogi State Indigenous Contractor; Alh Yakubu Amodu described the exercise as the most transparent in the history of the state while expressing confidence in the implementation committee.
Declaring the bid opened, the Governor of kogi state who was ably represented by the Secretary to the State Government; Mrs Ayoade Folashade Arike assured contractors of equity and fairness in the bidding process while demanding quality jobs from qualified and lucky contractors at the end of the exercise.
According to the Project Implementation Committee, the pre-qualification requirements are;
1-Evidence of incorporation with Corporate Affairs Commission
2-Evidence of Registration with Kogi State Ministry of Work and Housing
3-Evidence of Registration with Kogi State SDGs office
4-Evidence of Registration with kogi state due process office
5- Current tax clearance certificate (for 3)yrs including TIN number
6-Financial Cability/Bakers reference
7-Company profile with evidence of similar works carried out
8-list of personnel, vehicle and equipment
9-VAT registration certificate
10-Audit account for 3 yrs
11-Evidence of payment of non-refundable pre-qualification fee of N10,000.
Those present during the pre-qualification exercise were the representative of the Judiciary, representative of the SDGs consultant from the presidency, civil society group, members of the media, the ALGON chairman, Commissioner for Education, Commissioner for rural development and other top interested parties.
