Okala who disclosed this in an interview yesterday in Lokoja said the exercise was a continuous one and in phases adding that the present phase would end September, 30.
The committee chairman hinted that at the beginning of the screening exercise in February, the entire workforce both at state and local government levels was 88,000 comprising 25,000 for the state and 63,000 for the 21 local councils.
He said that after the validation exercise, the figure came down to 63,000 for both levels adding: “As at the time the validation committee submitted its report on 26th July, the total number validated was 18,211 workers for state which is still being subjected to scrutiny.”
The figure, he said, is still being subjected to scrutiny “because those on problem Lists are coming with their complaints and by the time we resolve their complaints, the number will increase. The committee has the mandate to further scrutinize even the cleared list.”
The chairman said that the next phase would soon commence and urged all genuine workers with untainted employment papers not to entertain fears even if their names are neither on the cleared or problem lists as he assured them of justice.
“The only person that does not have hope and we will do everything possible that he does not have hope include those that are drawing salaries from the state but are not contributing anything to the growth of the state,” he said.
