The president of Ebira Must Be Better Group, EMBB, Comrade Danfulani Ohinoyi Lukman has suggested that to end terrorism in kogi state the state government must create jobs for unemployed youth who are vulnerable as well block the nation’s borders.
Danfulani made the suggestion while speaking as a keynote speaker at the International Youth Day organised by EMBB group, in Lokoja, Kogi State said the State government must take measures to reduce youth attractiveness to terrorist organisations.
Comrade Danfulani, who spoke on the theme; “Rethinking Strategic for National and regional security, Peace and Development in Africa”, noted that in some part of Africa, Asian countries, Preachers are regulated by licensing them and the radical among them were sanction by withdrawing their documents.
“To deal with terrorism effectively, there is need for both the stick and carrot approach. The government must look at the vulnerable segment of the population (youths and unemployed) and take measures to reduce the attractiveness of terrorist organisations to such vulnerable groups.
“This requires provision of fundamental infrastructure, such as schools, clinics, recreation centres and other facilities considered necessary in any modern society. Such infrastructure, where adequately provided, will prevent youths from drifting away from their family to join terrorist group.
Comrade Danfulani said, “as long as the government allows a free for all preaching by some of those who call themselves religious scholars, there will always be the tendency that a few militant preachers with fundamentalist views will interpret their religion in such a way as to create discord between the government and the people on one hand and between different religious groups on the other.
