Honorable Matthew Kolawole, representing Kabba/Bunu constituency, has in strong terms disown reports suggesting he was spearheading a move to replace Honorable Momoh Jimoh-Lawal as the speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly.
On Wednesday, Alhaji Yahaya Bello was sworn in as governor of Kogi State. Bello’s emergence has triggered speculations of a potential move to unseat the Speaker Jimoh-Lawal who hails from the Kogi Central as the new Governor. Both also hail from the same Local Government Area, Okehi.
However, Honorable Kolawole, the majority leader of the Kogi State Assembly, has distanced himself from the purported impeachment plot.
According to him, he never spoke at any forum nor to the media about intentions to influence the removal of the speaker.
He insisted that the reports propagated against him were all blackmails from individuals who wanted to cause confusion among the legislative members, adding that all members were capable of leading the State Assembly.
“Sincerely, I’m very shock by the report. I’ve read the article on line but they were all lies and have no truth at all in it,” Honorable Kolawole said.
“I am truly very disappointed by some individuals who are trying to blackmail me. It’s a total blackmail. I have not spoken to anybody nor attend any meeting to discuss matters of the State Assembly.
“I have been in Kabba, the headquarters of my constituency in the last three days and held no meeting whatsoever with any legislative member not even the media as conceived in the report.
“I believe it’s the handy work of my detractors and efforts of individuals seeking to discredit my personality and blackmail to me.
“Either in the Kogi West or East, every member of the Assembly have fair chance and capacity to lead the Assembly, there is no plan on ground to impeach anybody. It is all fallacy,” he concluded.
