AN OPEN LETTER TO PRESIDENT MUHAMMADU BUHARI, GCFR
Federal Republic of Nigeria
From: The Good People of Kogi State Central Kogi State.
Your Excellency,
KOGI MINISTERIAL NOMINEE, AN APPOINTMENT WELL DESERVED
Sir, it is with sincerity of purpose and utmost regard that we thank you Mr. President for your choice of Ministerial Nominee from Kogi State. For us, the people of Kogi Central, Ocholi Enojo James, SAN is one of Nigeria’s best brains and finest Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) with an excellent track record. Thus, Ocholi’s nomination and appointment are well deserved.
You have done us proud Mr. President. We are however aware that Prince Abubakar Audu has instigated a group to write a petition against your choice of nominee, and as such we appeal that you disregard such baseless, ill-motivated plea as it lacks merit.
Mr. President we thank you for nominating Ocholi Enojo James, SAN as Minister, Federal Republic of Nigeria.
For Prince Abubakar Audu to post on his Facebook stating in a boastful manner that the President did not consult him before nominating Ocholi Enojo James, SAN as Minister is a manifestation of his personal ego.
It is pertinent to note at this juncture that Ocholi Enojo James, SAN was instrumental to the process that gave birth to APC as a party in Nigeria particularly in Kogi State. This can be confirmed as he has his finger prints all over the building blocks of the APC today particularly the success of the Party during the last Presidential and National Assembly election as State Coordinator.
Suffice it to say that the political experience and antecedents of the Nominee places him very far above the troop of Kogi elites. Therefore, his capability and competence to function optimally in the office of Federal Minister would not be in doubt. In addition, we see him as a man of people and a down to earth grassroots mobilizer. He is popular, accountable, knowledgeable, humble and transparent in all his dealings and above all a man of integrity.
As explicitly stated above for a man of this level of excellence, it would not come as a surprise to be called upon for National service. The people of Kogi State in general (East, Central and West Senatorial Districts) are the overall winners and ultimate beneficiaries of this well-deserved appointment. His “cross-over” appeal is overwhelming in proportion.
In agreement with the APC Mantra of ‘change,’ he belongs to the new breed of politicians that this generation is eagerly waiting for to assume political leadership of our people.
It is on record that a particular time in the history of our State, President Obasanjo appointed two Ministers from the Western Senatorial zone, all in the same cabinet in the persons of Prof. Eyitayo Lambo and Major. Gen. David Jemibenwon (Rtd). This was the status-quo during the regime of President Obasanjo. During President Goodluck Jonathan, Mohammed Adoke, SAN from Central Senatorial District was the Minister from Kogi State for six years.
On record today we have 5 registered parties contesting in the forthcoming election of 21st November, 2015 from the three Senatorial District of which no one can categorically say who the winner will be.
We humbly believe that your choice of Ocholi Enojo James, SAN for the position of Honourable Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is well-founded and based on popular view of majority support. We in the Central Senatorial zone see it as a positive development for all our people and the State at large.
Yours faithfully,
Alh. Yahaya Abdulmaliki
