The present Kogi state administration has already designed the roadmap for addressing poverty and unemployment in Kogi State through its programmes that would put the youths to work and channel their energy towards contributing the socio-economic growth of the country.
This was the submission of Kogi State Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Hon Ali Ajuh, in an address he delivered at a Forum organised in collaboration with the Organised Private Sector in Kogi State recently in Lokoja.
The Commissioner stressed that since the inception of the present administration, the governor, Capt Idris Wada has shown his determination to reducing poverty among the population by addressing the issue of youth unemployment.
He said various programmes such the Youth Advancement Development for Kogi State (YAD4KOGI) and other undertakings have been designed with the interest of the youths at heart, saying that they have helped in addressing the problem of thuggery in the state.
On his part, the commissioner for youths and sports, Honourable Attah Ikani Sule, who congratulated the people of the state for the pragmatism of Capt Wada to bringing the YESSO initiative to the state, said it shows the governor’s passion to changing the unemployment trend among the people.
Hon Sule assured the people that the ministry under his watch was ready to implement the Skill for Job (S4J) component of the programme which is domiciled in his ministry.
He said the ministry was poised to negotiate with the private sector operators to facilitate an agreement on the deployment of interns that would be polled from benefiting communities in the state as soon as the single register for the beneficiaries is ready.
The commissioner therefore challenged the private sector in the state to be alive to their responsibilities towards the realization of the objectives of the programme, saying that the state government is ready to provide starter packs for the graduate trainees.
