National Coordinator of the All Progressives Congress Loyalty Group in Kogi State, Dr. Akwu Goodman, has opposed the appointment of senior special assistants for the 21 local government councils in the state by Governor Idris Wada.
Addressing journalists yesterday in Lokoja, Dr Goodman said appointing heads of local governments in whatever name was unacceptable to the party and against a court judgement.
Justice Alaba Omolaiye- Ajileye of the Kotokarfe High Court had delivered a judgment on December 8, last year in respect of a suit instituted against the state government and State Electoral Commission (SIEC), declaring that membership of the SIEC that conducted the May 4, 2013 local government polls was constituted contrary to the provisions of the 1999 Constitution.
Goodman said the appointment of caretaker heads was illegal, stressing that “despite the judgement, the Kogi State government this week appointed 21 senior special assistants to take over the administration of the 21 local governments from the Director of Local Government. This is alien to our constitution and they are trying to use trick to manage the affairs of the people.”
