Senator Smart Adeyemi has declared in Abuja that the on-going construction of three modern multi-million naira stadia in Kogi West senatorial district of the state, sponsored by him, are being targeted at engaging the youths of the area positively on completion.
He said the 5,000 sitting capacity Kabba modern township stadium, which was designed to complement the state owned stadium in Lokoja, will upon completion, host international and local events.
He also said the Iyara township stadium is about 75 percent completed, while a large expanse of land had been acquired in Egbe town for the construction of another stadium there, which will start from next year.
Said Senator Adeyemi: “The major project I have in mind to productively engage the youths is the construction of the 5, 000 seater Kabba township stadium; the seats arrived Kabba yesterday. It has an Olympic size swimming pool, pitches for lawn tennis, basketball, with the pavilion ready. It is going to compliment the state owned stadium in Lokoja.
“There are facilities that could host local and international competitions there. The pitches are ready. We have concluded the fencing and plastering. Three out of the five Pavilions are ready and roofed. The swimming pool is in progress. It will be an alternative stadia for competitions in Kogi state.
“I am equally constructing a township stadium in Iyara town. It is about 75 percent completed. We have also acquired a large expanse of land in Egbe town to build another stadium. “The essence of spending money to build the stadia is to use sports as a means of galvanizing socio-economic activities of our people. It is also aimed at creating jobs and engage the youths in productive activities.”
