Kogi Wins 2014 Mathematics Olympiad Competition

Four students from Kogi State have done the state proud by emerging victorious in the 2014 Mathematical Association of Nigeria’s annual mathematical competition held at the University of Ilorin, Kwara State, recently.

According to the Commissioner for Education, Dr. (Mrs.) Agnes Okai, Iko-Ojo U. Okolo of Ochaja Boys Science Secondary School, Ochaja and Farida Okoivon of Staff Comprehensive College, Ajaokuta won the first position nation-wide in the junior category quiz/Olympiad competition and were presented a trophy.

In the senior category, Sadiq Mohammed Habib of NIOMCO Secondary School Itakpe and Omofugba Timilehin of Sacred Heart College, Kabba, won the second position in the national competition.

The Department of Science and Technology of the state Ministry of Education which is responsible for the selection of teachers and students for the annual quiz and Olympiads competition, selected 12 students from various schools in Kogi State out of which four emerged victorious with first and second positions in the prestigious national competition.

The Kogi State contingent was led to Ilorin by the Director Science and Technology in the state Ministry of Education, Mr. Jonathan Obayemi, and five others.

The next annual conference cum competition will be hosted by Enugu State between August 30 and September 5, 2015.
