Kogi State chapter of the Medical and Health Workers’ Union of Nigeria(MHWUN) has directed its members  at the local government level to withdraw their services.

The directive was contained in a statement signed by Comrade Onuh Edoka and Comrade Rose Momoh , chairman and secretary of the union.

The statement said the decision of the union to stop participating in activities at the local government was premised on the alleged refusal of the council chairmen to respect a collective bargaining agreement reached on the implementation of Consolidated Health Salary Structures (CONHSS)  for health workers.

The union said Idah, Igalamela, Bassa and Okene Local Government Area have implemented the agreement, adding that the decision is not a strike action, but  to draw the attention of council chairmen to the CONHESS as agreed upon June 19, 2014.

“It is apparently clear that the service rendered by health workers in controlling and managing different diseases and ailments in local government areas is not being appreciated.  It is also disheartening to note that the local government chairmen failed to comply with the agreement,” they said.

The union appealed to the state Commissioner for Health, Dr Idris Omede, to  prevail on the council chairmen to implement CONHESS salary structure as agreed upon to avert any action that could be detrimental to the sector.
