2015: Awoniyi Urge Politicians to Play Politics Devoid of Violence

Politicians in the country have been told to imbibe politics of my policies, vision and mission and less of rancor as the nation approaches 2015 general elections.

Kogi State Deputy Governor made the remarks in Iyamoye, Ijumu LGA, of Kogi State at the fifth year prayer and remembrance of Late AIG (RTD) Alhaji Ahmadu Sheidu who passed away in 2009.

Awoniyi called on Nigerians to make lasting legacies that will outlive them a priority while on earth, said it will serve as a memorial for them even after their demise.

Awoniyi described Late Sheidu’s unquenchable love for discipline lifestyle as well as his insatiable appetite for challenges that led him to a career in the Nigerian Police as legacies he is been remembered for years after his demise.

Awoniyi described the Late Sheidu as a unique police officer whose contribution to peace and conflict management remains unrivaled.

He urged those in the Police Service to emulate his commitment and zeal in the discharge of their responsibilities, a quality Awoniyi said saw the Presidency granting him additional two years extension .

Awoniyi commended Late Sheidu for his politics of seeking to improve the lots of his people politically, said he was a quintessential politician, who played politics of development.

Despite his several attempts to represent his people albeit, unsuccessfully, Awoniyi maintained that Late Sheidu remained undeterred, contributing his quota to the nations development until his death.

Awoniyi commended Gov Idris Wada for creating an enabling political environment that has allowed for a peaceful coexistence of political parties in the state.

The Deputy Governor urged politicians to play politics devoid of violence as we approach 2015. He advised that in politics you win some and you lose some.

Awoniyi, commended the unity that has sustained the family the Late Sheidu left behind, said his good works of discipline and love has glued them together years after his death.

Alh Ahmadu Sheidu died in 2009, after a brief illness. Until his death, he was the Balogun Adinni of Okunland, Olusegun of Ijumuland, Aare Musulumi of Iyamoye and Ojomo of Ogidiland.

In 1999 and 2003, under the UNCP and ANPP, late Sheidu contested to the Senate to represent the people of West Senatorial District of Kogi State.

A 1961 graduate of Institute of Administration, Ahmadu Bello University Zaria with a Diploma in Public Administration, Late Sheidu later attended Detective School, Wakefield, England and the International Police Academy, Washington DC, USA where he was awarded a Diploma in Criminology.

Highlights of the remembrance program was the commissioning of a five bedroom house built in honour of Late Ahmadu Sheidu by Bode Olajumoke as well as the offering of prayers for the repose of his soul and the family he left behind by moslem clerics.

The remembrance prayer was attended by Sam Aro who led a high powered delegation of the Kogi State Chapter of the APC and other dignitaries from all works of life .
