Kogi State Chapter of Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, has said that bureaucratic bottlenecks created by the State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB, are frustrating the genuine efforts of the state government to change the fortunes of basic education in the state.
The NLC also appealed to the state governor to rescue primary school teachers from the ‘maladministration’ of the SUBEB management, which is owing primary school teachers over three months salaries.
State Chairman of NLC in Kogi State, Comrade James Odaudu, who made the condemnation while addressing workers on May Day celebration at the Lokoja Township Stadium, stated that the primary school teachers are at the receiving end of the bottlenecks. The Congress also called on Governor Idris Wada to put all the machineries in place for the implementation of the 100 per cent minimum wage for the primary school teachers, in keeping the agreement entered into with the Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT, in 2013, without further delay.

The teachers, decked in black attires and carrying placards, called on the state government to honour its promises.
Some the placards read: ‘No Teachers, No Nation’, ‘Pay Us Our Salary’, ‘Enough is Enough of SUBEB’. Governor Wada, who represented by the state Head of Service, Dr. Moses Atakpa, felicitated with workers on the May Day celebration.
He commended the workers for their unflinching support to his administration in the past.
The governor pledged to look into the various issues raised by the workers.
