The Kogi State government has called on the federal government to refund the N14 billion spent on rehabilitating federal roads across the state.

Governor Idris Wada made the call yesterday in Kabba in Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area, during the flag-off of work on the Kabba-Egbe- Ilorin road by the Minister of Works, Mike Onolememen.

“We have spent N14 billion on the rehabilitation of federal roads in the state. A request for refund has been submitted to the Ministry of Works for approval. We know that other states have also submitted similar requests but we need it urgently for other projects,” he said.

He commended President Goodluck Jonathan for approving the project and assured the contractor of adequate security.

Also speaking, the Minister of Works, Mike Onolememen, said the rehabilitation of the road was as a result of the federal government’s commitment to make all roads in the country motorable.

He said the rehabilitation of the road was necessary because when completed, it will serve as a major link to the largest cement factory in Africa.
