Kogi Empowers 10,000 Youths, Women on Skills

A total of 10,000 youths and women in the 21 local government areas of Kogi State have benefited from the government job creation programmes.

The Governor, Captain Idris Wada disclosed this at the closing ceremony of the sixth batch of the Youth Advancement and Women Development for Kogi, a public works training programme initiated two years ago. Wada said that youth unemployment has become a major problem in the country, even as Kogi has initiated programmes through which more than 10,000 youths and women have so far benefited.

The governor who was represented by the Secretary to the Government, Prof. Olugbemiro Jegede, said the government is aware that youths in the state are full of energy, stressing that his administration will leave no stone unturned in creating job opportunities to realise their potentials.

He therefore urged the beneficiaries to take the advantage of the programme to improve their lives so as to be responsible persons in their communities. Earlier in her address, the Special Adviser to the governor on Youth and Women development, Dr. Temitope Sinkaiye disclosed that a total of 1,053 men and women took part in the training to enable them contribute to the socio-economic development of the state, saying the number brings a total of 5,565 youth and women trained under the public works programme.

He noted that the volunteers were trained in environmental sanitation to enable them carry out their duties at the local government areas.
