The Attah Igala, His Royal Majesty Idakwo Ameh Oboni has described the rector of Kogi State Polytechnic, Professor Matthew Ajibero, as a shining star whose developmental strides has made the state Polytechnic one of the best in the country.
Ameh Oboni who stated this when the rector and other principal officers paid him a courtesy visit in his palace in Idah said that Kogi State Polytechnic is now standing out because of the exemplary leadership quality of Prof Ajibero.
Attah who expressed his gratitude to the rector and his team for the visit, thanked him for improving the polytechnic from what he met, stressing that this is the mark of an upright leader. He pointed out that the polytechnic is the pride of Kogi State.
The royal father, who expressed regrets over the April 19 crisis in the institution, pointed out that it was not a good news that should spread to other places. He condemned tribal sentiment among the people describing it as a stone age behaviour. He urged the rector and his management team to ensure that the culprits are fished out to face the wrath of the law.
His royal majesty noted that as a result of the polytechnic closeness to the highway, students risk their lives while trying to cross the highway; he therefore advised the rector that a pedestrian bridge should be built to avoid tragedy. He pointed out that though it is a Federal highway, something needs to be done in order to save the lives of our students.
Speaking earlier, Prof Ajibero apologised for what he described as a belated visit which he attributed to the recent crisis which led to the closure of the school.
Prof Ajibero who briefed the royal father on the activities in the institution said the school has just resumed after the crisis. He pointed out that it was a difficult situation. “We are still in the mourning period because our beloved and hardworking colleague lost his life during the crisis. The colleague is one of your subjects”, he said.
The rector told his host that Kogi State Polytechnic is one of the leading polytechnics in Nigeria today. He said his administration has been able to establish all the engineering and environmental programmes such as mechanical, electrical and civil engineering. Others include building, architectural technology etc. He disclosed that all these programmes and the ones he met on ground are fully accredited.
