3 Killed, 19 Injured in Accident Along Lokoja-Abuja Road

Three persons lost their lives while 19 others sustained various degrees of injuries in separate accidents between Giri-Airport Road on the Lokoja-Abuja Expressway.

Gwagwalada unit commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Alhaji Ahmed Abubakar, who disclosed this in an interview with our reporter yesterday, said the first accident which occurred on Monday afternoon around 3:15 p.m. at Giri village claimed one life.

He said the accident, which involved a Toyota Sienna car with registration number ABC 670 AA occured when its driver lost control.

According to him, three persons who sustained serious injuries and were taken to University of Abuja Teaching Hospital for medical attention.

He added that two persons also died in another accident in the wee hours of Monday at Gwako village, along Abuja-Lokoja road.

He said the lone accident involved a Honda car with registration number BS 354 KUJ.

According to him, five accidents were recorded between August 8 and 10, adding that eight vehicles and 21 persons were involved in the accidents.

The FRSC commander however stated that the command recorded fewer accidents during the Sallah celebrations.

He advised motorists, especially commercial drivers, to always ensure that their vehicles are roadworthy before plying the highway.

He appealed to the federal government not to relent in efforts at mobilizing contractors handling the dualization of Lokoja-Abuja road in order to complete the work before December.
