SURE-P is a Social Safety Net Program

The Community Service Program of the Subsidy Reinvestment Program (SURE-P) that caters for Community Services, women and youths employment has been described as a social safety net program.

The State Chairman of the Community Services of the SURE-P for women and youth programme of the Federal Government, Chief Abdullahi Ohioma stated this when he paid a courtesy call on the State Deputy Governor, Yomi Awoniyi in his office.

The Community Service Programme which is to engage ten thousand unemployed youths for a period of one year, before making them self reliant, pays a monthly stipends of N10,000.00 monthly.

The Chairman explained that the scheme is to provide employment opportunities for women and the vulnerable group in the society will help reduce youth’s restiveness, unemployment and check negative vices among young people, remains a laudable intervention of the SURE-P scheme.

Chief Abdullahi commended the State Road Maintenance Agency, Environmental Protection Agency and the office of the Millennium Development Goals for requesting the services of the participants of the SURE-P scheme.

The Chairman called for partnership between the State Government to ensure that the State benefits from the Federal Government programme, solicited for support in the areas of logistics to enable the Committee achieve its goals.

In his remarks, Yomi Awoniyi State Deputy Governor, assured of the State Government’s partnership, so as to bring succor to its citizenry.

The Deputy Governor noted that the scheme has the potential to reduce the pain arising from the deregulation and removal of subsidy that came into effect in 2012.

He promised to take the plea of assistance by the Committee to facilitate their activities in the State.
