several months after former President Olusegun Obasanjo voluntarily resigned as chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), a new chairman is expected to emerge today.
Senator Ahmadu Ali, a former national chairman of PDP, is eminently qualified to be Chairman, Board of Trustees of PDP given his pedigree, loyalty and total commitment to the party.
Ali may lose out due to the present composition of party leadership. The incumbent National Chairman of the party, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, is from the North, while the new secretary of the board, Alhaji Jibrin Wali, is from the North Central. This scenario may see the Bot Chairmanship zoned to the south.
Top politicians angling for the position include Kogi-born Senator Ahmadu Ali, Chief Tony Anenih, Senator Ken Nnamani, Alhaji Shuaib Oyedokun, Dr Alex Ekwueme and Chief Harry Akande.
A source close to the board said that already, the emergency meeting of the Board had been slated for today at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, and would be presided over by President Goodluck Jonathan.
