The World Health Organization (WHO) has commended the prompt response mechanism of the Kogi State Government to the handling of internally displaced persons in relief camps.
Dr. Brennan Richard, Director Emergency Risk management and Humanitarian Response, WHO, headquarter Jeneva, stated this when he visited the State Governor, Capt. Idris Wada after his assessment of the impact of the recent flooding done to the State.
Dr. Brennan disclosed that the health impact associated with the flood if not properly managed will be devastating, said the WHO is ready to support the health strategy of the State Government for it to be able to respond to the health challenges of the flood.

Dr. Brennan said the WHO has already ordered the supply of drugs to the State Ministry of Health, commended all the Health Staff in their management and provision of other services to internally displaced persons.
The WHO health officials described the setting at most camps in the state visited as very well organized, praised the Kogi State Government for been proactive in their response.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Idris Omede, who led the delegation to the Governor, said the WHO delegation was in the State on a scoping mission and to look at the extent of devastation the flood caused the State.
In his speech, Capt. Idris Wada, Kogi State Governor, who was represented by his Deputy, Arc. Yomi Awoniyi, thanked the United Nations Group for their support since the flooding began in the State.
The Governor noted that if not for the assistance received from organizations like the UN group, the State Government will not have been able to cope with the devastation caused by the flood.
