Member of the House of Representatives representing Idah, Igalamela/Odolu, Ibaji and Ofu federal constituency, Honourable Ismaila Inah Hussein has moved a motion urging the lower legislative chamber to order the managing Director of Nigeria National Petroleum Company (NNPC), Mr Austin Oniwon to explain the reason behind the delay in the take-off of Greenfield Refinery designated to be sited in Itobe, Kogi State.

Ismaila urged the house to mandate the relevant committee of the House to invite the managing Director of NNPC to come and explain the rationale for the delay in the commencement of the Greenfield Refinery. He expressed worries that in spite of the genuine interest and enthusiasm shown by Kogi State Government in issuance of the certificate of occupancy to the company for the immediate take-off of the project, NNPC has been into hide-and-seek game.

Ismaila wondered why the Itobe project is yet to take off when those of Lagos and Bayelsa States are being expended from their original concept and almost completed.

He maintained that the State cannot afford another failed project as Ajaokuta Steel Complex and the National Iron Ore Mining Project were previously stalled in spite of their strategic importance.

Consequently, the House has directed its committee on petroleum and gas to address the issue raised by the motion.
