Hell was let loose weekend at Iyara in Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State at a function organised by Senator Smart Adeyemi, as supporters of an aspirant on the platform of PDP, Alhaji Jibrin Isah Echocho stormed the venue with placards and various dangerous weapons demanding for the head of the governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris if he will not prevail on the leadership of the party to cancel the conduct of a fresh primary into the governorship seat in the state.
The protesters who had already planned their strategy to hoodwink the governor into accepting their principal, had waited against the order of protocol for over twenty minutes of governor’s entry into the venue before storming the venue with war songs and placards calling the governor unprintable names.
It took the spirited efforts of the security men to bring the unruly behaviour of the group and their master, Jibrin Isah Echocho under control.
The embattled governor who was visibly angry with the behaviour of the group had told his host, Smart Adeyemi that he was disappointed to be brought to his occasion only to be humiliated by a man who wants to be a governor at all costs but surrounded with political thugs.
Meanwhile, as the governor thought what happened at Iyara was an act of omission by the Jibrin Isah Echocho led group, he was wrong as the group in a violent demonstration yesterday stormed the Government House, Lokoja, saying that in Echocho’s candidature they stand.
The protesters who stormed government house at about 1pm on Tuesday stated that they were there to formerly inform the governor that PDP will lose the state if fresh primary is conducted.
The group numbering over hundreds stormed the government house at about 1 pm carrying placards with various inscriptions calling on the governor and the party leadership to stop the primary election stressing that without Jibrin’s candidature PDP will lose to opposition party.
One of the spokesperson of the group, Alhaji Muhammed Idris, who is also the president, Echocho Network Group, said they were protesting to inform the president, the acting chairman of the PDP, Abubakar Kawu Baraje, as well as governor Ibrahim Idris that they were not informed of what made the first primary which produced Jibrin Isah invalid, asking whether they are contrasting the PDP and the Nigeria Constitution.
Idris said the governor should have made it clear to Echocho his fault before dropping him for any candidate, alleging that they were told that the governor was dropping Jibrin for his in-law who is aspiring to be an aspirant for the primaries.
