  • Says intervention restores dignity, preserves Igala heritage and identity

A retired military officer, Colonel Dr Abu Vincent Enemona, has commended the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, for his decisive intervention in the comprehensive renovation and overhaul of the Palace of His Royal Majesty, the Ata of Igala.

In a statement of appreciation addressed to the Army Chief, Dr Enemona described the project as a significant restoration of the cultural heritage and dignity of the Igala nation. He noted that the previously deplorable condition of the revered traditional institution had for years remained a major source of concern and embarrassment to the Igala people.

Dr Enemona observed that the palace represents far more than a traditional residence, emphasizing that it serves as an enduring symbol of the history, culture, identity, and collective heritage of the Igala kingdom. He asserted that the Army’s intervention transcends conventional construction work, describing it as a deliberate effort to safeguard the cultural identity of the people and restore the prestige associated with one of the most prominent traditional stools in Igala land.

“Your intervention is therefore not just a construction project; it is a cultural restoration, a preservation of heritage, and a restoration of the dignity of our people,” Enemona stated.

The retired officer noted that the gesture deserved widespread praise from Igala sons and daughters both at home and in the diaspora, given the deep historical and cultural importance attached to the Ata’s seat of authority. Speaking on behalf of the wider Igala community, he offered prayers for divine protection, strength, and continued success for the Chief of Army Staff in his service to the nation and humanity.

He expressed gratitude to the Army Chief, adding that mankind, the ancestors, and the hosts of Heaven rejoice and sing praises to Almighty God for the noble act. Enemona further prayed that God would reward Lieutenant General Shaibu’s commitment to service and remember the singular act of honour among his many contributions to the country.

The commendation underscores the deep cultural value attached to the restoration of the Ata Igala’s Palace, an institution that occupies a central place in Nigeria’s traditional history. Observers note that the renovation project represents a lasting contribution to cultural preservation and intergenerational heritage, while illustrating the positive impact of military leadership interventions that recognize and protect the country’s diverse traditional institutions. Concluding his message, Dr Enemona congratulated the Chief of Army Staff and expressed appreciation for what he termed a noble and selfless contribution to the Igala nation.
