Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has sent a message of condolence to Saudi Arabia’s government and people over recent attacks on the kingdom by Yemen’s Houthi militia, Nigeria’s foreign ministry said on Friday.

The letter was delivered by Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye, who received Saudi Arabia’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Yousef bin Mohammed Al-Balawi, at his office this week, according to a statement from the minister’s media office.

In the letter, Tinubu strongly condemned the attacks, which the statement said had claimed many lives and damaged infrastructure and critical installations in Saudi Arabia. He extended his sympathies to Prime Minister and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, as well as to the Saudi government and people.

Enikanolaiye told the ambassador there was no alternative to peace, and urged people in the region to shun violence.

Al-Balawi thanked Tinubu for what the statement described as his solidarity and consolation.

He praised Nigeria’s condemnation of what he called terrorist and rebel activity against legitimate governments, and reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s commitment to regional and international peace and security, according to the statement.
