The Executive Chairman of Ijumu Local Government Area, Hon. Haruna Ibrahim, has distributed empowerment items worth millions of naira to constituents at his country home in Ogidi, promising to deliver further dividends of democracy across the local government.
The initiative, dubbed the Mega Empowerment programme, saw the distribution of items including motorcycles, grinding machines, refrigerators, and direct cash assistance to 200 widows. Local leaders of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) who received motorcycles described the gesture as democracy in action and expressed surprise at the scale of the support.
Speaking during the presentation, Ibrahim stated that the empowerment scheme was designed to appreciate the people of Ijumu for entrusting him with their mandate and for demonstrating steadfast support for his administration since he assumed office.
Focusing on peace and safety, the council chairman noted that Ijumu remains one of the safest local government areas in Kogi State and the country at large. He attributed this security record directly to the cooperation of residents, who have consistently provided credible and timely intelligence to security agencies.
The empowerment event comes as Ibrahim seeks re-election in the upcoming Saturday local government elections. Addressing the gathering, the chairman solicited the continued backing of the electorate to enable him to consolidate on his administration’s achievements across security, education, agriculture, and infrastructure development.
Ibrahim expressed deep gratitude to Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for his leadership and support.
He also paid tribute to key political and community figures, including APC chieftain Hon. Funsho Olumoko, Dr. Paul Femi Fashagba, Provost of Kogi State College of Education Ankpa, and the Ijumu Traditional Council led by the Olujumu of Ijumu Kingdom, Oba Williams Olusegun Ayeni.
The council chairman urged constituents to rally behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and all APC candidates in the 2027 general elections to ensure sustained development and political stability.
