The Publisher/CEO and Management of CAPITAL POST, a premium online newspaper, mourned the demise of journalist Danusa Ocholi, News Editor of Daily Asset Newspaper, on Tuesday, September 21, 2026.
In a statement on Tuesday by the CEO of CAPITAL POST, Pastor Atekojo Samson Usman, described late Ocholi as a time tested Editor, who brought professionalism to bear in newsroom under whatever circumstances that would have ordinarily made him to be bias on his editorial picks.
Atekojo Samson Usman said he knew the late journalist in the formative days of DAILY Asset, who he worked with for close to a year before resigning from the newspaper, adding that Ocholi was a complete gentleman, who was committed to mentoring young journalists at all time.
According to him, late Ocholi has never been swayed by the practice of what has now become ‘brown envelopes’ journalism, but committed to shaping editorial contents based on realities through his practice.
The publisher revealed that the late journalist encouraged and guided him to maintain professionalism and journalism ethics during the commencement of CAPITAL POST in 2000, which has become the core values of the publication till today.
He said the vacuum left by the late Danusa Ocholi in newsroom would be difficult to fill up, while he commiserated with DAILY ASSET newspaper, journalists across the country and his immediate family, he prayed that “may Ocholi’s soul rest in the bossom of the Lord.”
The statement partly reads: “The news of Danusa Ocholi’s death was heart breaking to me. This is a journalist who is a complete professional that never get swayed by financial inducement in his choice of editorial contents.
“A professional to the core who has mentored great number of young journalists; who guided me and advised to to be ethical when CAPITAL POST was to commence in the year 2000.
“His death on Tuesday will leave gaps in newsroom that would be difficult to fill, while I commiserate DAILY ASSET, journalists, across the country and his immediate family, I pray for his soul to rest in the bossom of the Lord”.
Pastor Usman called on media proprietors and the Nigeria Union of Journalists to make it compulsory for journalists to enrol with health insurance companies to take care of their health issues.
