Fresh internal disciplinary developments have hit the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State, with the suspension of the party’s Local Government Secretary, Kabiru Omata, and State Publicity Relations Officer (PRO), Alhaji Tijani Umoru Aruwa.

The development has also led to the appointment of Hon. Sunday Adaji Jr. as Acting Public Relations Officer of the PDP in Kogi State, pending the ratification of the appointment by the State Working Committee and the conclusion of disciplinary proceedings against the suspended State PRO.

The actions are contained in separate documents issued by the party structures in Dekina and dated between September 12 and 15, 2026.

Omata Suspended Over Petitions

The Anyigba Ward executive committee announced the one-month suspension of Kabiru Omata following an emergency meeting held on September 8, 2026.

According to the suspension letter addressed to the PDP Divisional Chairman in Dekina, the ward executive said it had undertaken a “thorough observation, review of actions and petitions against Kabiru Omata.”

The committee said it found “reasonable ground to investigate the allegation” and consequently suspended Omata for one month pending the outcome of a disciplinary committee.

The letter stated: “You are hereby suspended for a period of one month pending the outcome of the report of disciplinary committee.” IMG_8390(1).jpeg

State PRO Also Suspended

In a separate development, the Abocho Ward executive committee announced the one-month suspension of Alhaji Tijani Umoru Aruwa, the PDP State PRO.

The decision followed an emergency meeting of the ward executive held on September 9, 2026.

The committee said it deliberated on “the series of actions [and] complaints received against Alh Tijani Umoru Aruwa,” alleging that the complaints concerned conduct which it considered to be in direct violation of Section 58(1) of the PDP Constitution 2017, as amended.

The letter stated that there were “reasonable grounds to investigate the allegation” and consequently declared Aruwa suspended from the party for one month.

It added: “A disciplinary committee has been set up to investigate the allegation against you.” IMG_8391.jpeg

Sunday Adaji Jr. Named Acting State PRO

Barely days after the suspension of the State PRO, the PDP Dekina Local Government Executive Committee moved to ensure continuity in the party’s publicity machinery with the appointment of Hon. Sunday Adaji Jr. as Acting Public Relations Officer.

In a letter dated September 15, 2026, and signed by the PDP Dekina Local Government Chairman, Hon. Omede Abdullahi, the party informed Adaji of his appointment with immediate effect.

The letter linked the appointment directly to the suspension of Aruwa, stating that he was suspended from office as State PRO “due to gross misconduct, anti-party and insubordination contrary to Article 58(1) of the Party Constitution 2017 as amended.”

According to the appointment letter, the Dekina LGA Executive Committee considered the need to maintain the smooth running of party activities and approved Adaji’s appointment at its meeting held on September 15.

The letter stated: “The LGA Executive Committee at its meeting held on 15 Sept 2026 has approved your appointment as ACTING Public Relations Officer of Kogi State PDP with immediate effect.”

However, the appointment is expressly subject to ratification by the PDP State Working Committee and remains pending the conclusion of the disciplinary proceedings against the suspended State PRO.

Mandate of Acting PRO

The appointment letter outlined key responsibilities for the Acting PRO, including overseeing the activities of the office, convening and presiding over meetings in the absence of the substantive officer, and promoting party discipline, unity and mobilisation.

The LGA leadership expressed confidence in Adaji’s ability to handle the assignment, citing his “wealth of experience, loyalty and commitment to the party.”

The letter further said his appointment would help “reposition the office and strengthen our party at the grassroots.”

The appointment was copied to the PDP State Chairman, State Secretary and Zonal Chairman, indicating that the state party leadership had been formally notified of the development.

Disciplinary Process Ongoing

The latest developments have raised fresh attention to internal discipline, hierarchy and compliance with the PDP constitution in Dekina and Kogi State.

However, the suspension documents make clear that the allegations against the affected officials are still subject to investigation. The disciplinary committees are expected to examine the complaints and submit their findings before any final decision is taken.

Thus, while the two officials remain suspended for the stated one-month period, the appointment of an Acting State PRO provides an interim administrative arrangement to keep the party’s publicity and mobilisation machinery functioning.

The developments also underscore the growing importance of internal discipline and party cohesion as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.
