The socio-political group, Igala Vanguard, has hit back at the 2023 Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship candidate in Kogi State, Muritala Ajaka, over his recent comments describing the group as “faceless.”
In a statement signed by its convener, Engr. Lawrence Ankpa, the group expressed disappointment at Ajaka’s remarks, describing them as ill-conceived and lacking logic.
Ankpa disclosed that the group had actively supported Ajaka’s gubernatorial ambition, recalling how they hosted him in Lagos and sent representatives who made financial contributions during his campaign fundraising event at the Nicon Luxury Hotel in Abuja.
“It is unfortunate that a man whom the Igala people laboured for is now calling them faceless,” Ankpa said.
The group challenged Ajaka to “be man enough” and take responsibility for sponsoring the recent protests at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) national headquarters in Abuja. The Igala Vanguard alleged that Ajaka only began denying his involvement in the protests after realizing that the strategy had backfired and failed to gain traction among political stakeholders, particularly in Kogi West.
The statement further criticized Ajaka’s political record, asserting that he lacks the moral authority and credentials to lead the people of Kogi East.
According to Ankpa, Ajaka betrayed the mandate of the Igala nation after he allegedly went back to tender a formal apology to former Governor Yahaya Bello for contesting against Bello’s preferred candidate.
“By begging and apologizing for standing against the former governor’s choice, Ajaka demonstrated a lack of political conviction. That act alone renders him unqualified to lay claim to the political leadership of Kogi East,” the statement added.
