Rt. Hon. Teejay Yusuf, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate seeking to represent Kogi West in the Senate, took his campaign directly to the grassroots this week, engaging community members at a town hall meeting hosted by Igbimo Atuluse.
The event, organised as part of the group’s outreach ahead of the 2027 general elections, gave residents the chance to question the candidate on issues ranging from job creation to infrastructure funding and community safety.
Addressing attendees, Yusuf pointed to his three consecutive terms representing the Kabba-Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, presenting his time in office as evidence of what he could deliver at the national level. He walked the gathering through what he described as his legislative scorecard, framing it as a foundation for his Senate bid.
The candidate then opened the floor for questions, fielding concerns from residents on local funding priorities and how Senate-level policy would affect the district.
“The goal of a lawmaker has always been to act as a bridge between policymakers and the citizens we represent,” Yusuf told the gathering, adding that community priorities would be “heard loud and clear at the national level” if he is elected in 2027.
Yusuf singled out Igbimo Atuluse for what he called impactful grassroots work, saying the organisation’s direct line to residents gave him the insight he needs to represent the district effectively.
“I am deeply impressed by the impactful work being done by Igbimo Atuluse,” he said. “Hearing directly from the grassroots members here today provides me with the vital insights needed to advocate effectively for this district in the Senate.”
The town hall closed with remarks from Hon. Barrister Segun Modeyin, who outlined the vision and mission of Igbimo Atuluse. The group describes itself as a voice for underrepresented communities, committed to preserving cultural heritage while supporting both traditional and political institutions in the district.
As part of its build-up to the 2027 elections, the organisation said it has launched a series of public debates and a Manifesto Night bringing together candidates ahead of the polls, aimed at giving voters a clearer basis for comparison before they cast their ballots.
