Barely five days after pledging relief for Lokoja residents grappling with an acute water shortage, the Senator representing Kogi West, Distinguished Senator Sunday Karimi, has commenced construction of seven industrial solar-powered motorised boreholes across Lokoja Municipal.
The project fulfils a commitment the Senator made during a Town Hall Meeting held on Monday, 24th August 2026, in Lokoja, where he addressed residents on the state capital’s worsening water situation.
At the meeting, Senator Karimi lamented the severity of the crisis and recalled how he had deployed water tankers throughout the holy month of Ramadan this year to cushion its effect on residents. He subsequently promised to facilitate five industrial solar-powered boreholes in the most affected areas, through the Corporate Social Responsibility intervention of a Federal Government agency.
Sources close to the Senator have since disclosed that the number of boreholes has been increased from five to seven, in a move aimed at reaching more communities.
With the new project, the total number of solar-powered motorised boreholes facilitated by Senator Karimi in Lokoja Local Government Area now stands at 29. This follows the earlier completion and commissioning of 22 such boreholes across the LGA.
Residents in the benefiting communities have welcomed the intervention, describing it as timely and people-oriented.
Reaffirming his commitment to the constituency, Senator Karimi said he remains focused on addressing critical infrastructure gaps in Kogi West and improving the living standards of his constituents.
