I woke up today to read the widely discussed statement by United States President Donald Trump explaining why he decided to cancel a planned military strike against Iran. His remarks prompted me to reflect on the conflict that began earlier this year and the important lessons the world can learn from it.
From my observation, one of the major lessons is that military superiority alone does not always guarantee success.
The United States appeared to rely heavily on its reputation as a global superpower, believing that pressure, threats, sanctions, and diplomatic isolation would force Iran to back down. However, the conflict demonstrated that every nation has its own capacity and determination to defend its sovereignty.
On the other hand, Iran projected resilience and long-term preparation. Despite years of economic sanctions and other challenges, the country showed that investment in science, technology, military capability, agriculture, medicine, and self-reliance can strengthen a nation’s ability to withstand external pressure.
Whether one agrees with its policies or not, Iran’s determination to protect what it considers its national interests offers lessons on resilience, perseverance, and strategic planning.
President Trump’s recent statement also reflected America’s continued belief in its military strength, while noting that a possible agreement with Iran had created an opportunity to suspend military action in the interest of regional and global stability. If dialogue can prevent conflict and save lives, then diplomacy should always be the preferred path.
I have always believed that disputes capable of leading to war can be resolved through sincere negotiations.
After the destruction of lives, homes, and infrastructure, nations often return to the negotiating table. It is therefore wiser to embrace dialogue before conflict escalates. Threats, intimidation, and hostility only create fear, suffering, and instability.
As reports continue to suggest renewed efforts toward a ceasefire, I sincerely hope this opportunity leads to a lasting peace. The countries of the Gulf region should continue to work together to preserve regional stability, while all parties should pursue peaceful coexistence and mutual respect.
I also pray for progress toward resolving the humanitarian crisis involving Hamas and Israel through peaceful and lawful means.
The international community, especially major powers, should strive to act as impartial mediators committed to genuine peace rather than applying different standards to similar situations. Lasting peace can only be achieved through fairness, justice, and respect for international dialogue.
The greatest lesson from this conflict is that nations should invest in self-development, strengthen their institutions, and remain steadfast in pursuing peace while protecting their sovereignty.
Above all, the world must remember that diplomacy is far more valuable than war.
