The 12 Brigade, Lokoja, has emerged overall winner of the 2 Division Inter-Brigade Warrant Officers and Senior Non-Commissioned Officers, (WOS/SNCOs), Competition 2026.

The 4-day competition, held from July 7 to 10 at Chari Maigumeri Barracks, Nigerian Army Headquarters Lokoja, ended on Friday with a closing ceremony attended by senior officers from the military, police, paramilitary and other invited guests.

Announcing the results, the Chief Judge of the Competition, Lt. Col. Abidemi Aderibigbe, said 12 Brigade topped the table with 460 points.

He said 2 Division Garrison, Ibadan, came second with 430 points and a better time in obstacle crossing, while 4 Brigade, Benin, took third position also with 430 points but recorded higher minutes in completing the same task.

Other results showed that 32 Artillery Brigade, Akure, came fourth with 370 points, 22 Armoured Brigade, Ilorin, came fifth with 300 points, while 42 Engineering Brigade, Ibadan, finished last with 260 points and received the “Wooden Spoon.”

The competition featured events designed to test core military competencies, including drill, combat swimming, combat race/obstacle crossing, map reading, and shooting/weapon handling.

The Commander of 12 Brigade, Brig Gen Kasim Sidi, who hosted the event, said there was no winner and no loser.

“Gentlemen, today we are all winners. We are here to test our endurance, team spirit and sportsmanship.

“Above all, it is about comradeship. We do not consider tribe or religion. We cover each other’s back and confront the enemy together as the Nigerian Army,” he said.

He commended participants for their dedication, team spirit and sense of purpose, and applauded the Local Organising Committee for ensuring a smooth, fair and professionally conducted exercise.

Sidi added that the competition aligned with the Chief of Army Staff’s command philosophy “to advance the transformation of the Nigerian Army into a more professional, adaptable, combat-ready, and resilient force.”

The Commander thanked the General Officer Commanding 2 Division, Maj Gen CR Nnebeife, for the opportunity to host the event.

Declaring the competition closed, the Special Guest of Honour, Commander of Nigerian Navy Ship NNS Lugard, Commodore Adesola Ojo, charged participants to sustain the professionalism and combat readiness gained during the competition.

Ojo said the event demonstrated professionalism, endurance, discipline and teamwork, and achieved its objectives of enhancing leadership capacity, improving physical fitness and strengthening teamwork among WOS and SNCOs.

He urged participants to return to their formations as “multipliers of excellence” and apply the lessons learnt to improve operational performance.

He also commended the Commander of 12 Brigade and the organising committee for the successful hosting of the event.
