Former First Lady of Ondo State, Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, has applauded the environmental beautification and landscaping initiatives championed by the Senator representing Kogi Central Senatorial District, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, describing the projects as a shining example of visionary and people-centred leadership.
In a statement shared through her verified social media page, She said the breathtaking garden established in Kogi Central demonstrates that meaningful development is not always defined by massive infrastructure projects but also by initiatives that improve the quality of life of the people.
Drawing attention to the project, she wrote: “This breathtaking garden is not in South Africa. It is in Kogi Central, Nigeria.”

She added that the serene environment reflects the impact of thoughtful governance on communities.
“One look at this serene landscape is enough to remind us that development is not always about billion-naira projects. Sometimes, it begins with leaders who care enough to create clean, beautiful, and welcoming public spaces that restore pride in the community,” she said.
According to the former First Lady, beautification projects should not be dismissed as mere aesthetic ventures, stressing that they represent a government’s commitment to the dignity and well-being of its citizens.
“To some, this may just be flowers. To visionary leaders, it is a statement of values. It says that the people deserve beauty, dignity, and an environment that uplifts the human spirit,” she stated.
She further noted that the conception and execution of such environmental projects require empathy, creativity and a deep appreciation for nature, qualities she believes distinguish transformational leadership.
“It takes a leader with compassion, imagination, and an appreciation of nature to conceive and execute a project like this. Such attention to detail reflects a broader philosophy of governance—one that recognizes that quality of life matters just as much as roads and buildings,” she remarked.
She maintained that true governance extends beyond physical infrastructure to include initiatives that foster pride, environmental sustainability and improved public spaces.
Reiterating her long-held belief on leadership, the former First Lady said: “This is exactly what I mean when I say good governance is not rocket science. It is about sincerity of purpose, competence, credibility, experience, accountability, and, above all, compassion for the people.”
Her remarks come amid growing public commendation of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s environmental initiatives across Kogi Central, particularly the development of landscaped gardens and green spaces aimed at promoting environmental sustainability, beautifying public areas and enhancing residents’ quality of life.
The projects have attracted widespread attention for underscoring the role of environmental stewardship in governance, with supporters describing them as evidence that impactful leadership can also be reflected in projects that restore civic pride and create healthier, more welcoming communities.
