Human rights are the basic rights and freedom, every human being is entitled to enjoy these rights

For example in Nigeria some of these rights includes

Civil rights
Freedom of speech, assembly, the press and fair trials

Political rights
Rights to vote ,participate in Government and have a say in your country’s decisions

Economic rights
Rights to work ,fair play and a decent standard of living

Social rights
Access to education ,healthcare and social security

Cultural rights
Rights to practice your culture, language and traditions

As International members of Amnesty international it is your responsibility to carry out cases of human rights abuses, document and report for necessary action with the following steps

Research and investigation by documenting human rights abuses and violations globally

Campaigning and Advocacy by raising awareness and pushing government to act on human rights issues

Activism and mobilization
Engaging members and supporters to take action Like signing petitions or Joining protests

Protecting human rights defenders by providing support and resources to individuals and groups fighting for human rights

Promoting international law by advocating for stronger laws and policies to protect human rights

International human rights organizations approach this assignment systematically by

Research and documentation
They investigate human rights abuses documenting cases of discrimination and inequality

Advocacy and campaign
They raise awareness and push for policy changes through campaigns, petitions and media outreach

Lobbying Government
They engage with Government to influence legislation and policies that promote equality and prevent discriminations

Empowering marginalized groups
They support and amplify the voices of marginalized communities helping them advocate for thier rights and

Education and training
They provide training and resources to promote mis understanding and respect for human rights
But in most countries human rights defenders run into conflicts with government in the course of thier assignments

Most human rights defenders face significant challenges including harassment, intimidation and arbitrary detention with inadequate protection which undermines the rights of the people under the law but could also undermines the rights of the people under the UN conventions

Despite some nations been signatory on various international human treaties , human defenders continue to face widespread human rights abuses

There no specific laws protecting human rights defenders which exacerbates their vulnerability

Harassment and intimidation
Human rights defenders are often subjected to harassment and intimidation by the state actors including law enforcement officials and multinational corporations .

Arbitrary detention
Many human rights defenders are arbitrarily detained and sone are even abused of publishing false news or seditions

Lack of protection
Sone countries who are signatories to international human treaties failed to provide adequate protection for human rights defenders, despite the passage of the UN declaration on human rights defenders in 1998

In conclusion, the inadequate protection of human rights defenders in sone nations is a significant concern from the Government to address this issue .

The Government is therefore expected to

1 Enact law that specially protect human rights defenders and provides them with the necessary support and protection

2 provide training and capacity building program for law enforcement and other stakeholders to promote a better understanding of human rights and the role of human rights defenders and also

Investigate and prosecute human rights abuses including those committed against human rights defenders.
